Bop’s NBA Top-10 Power Rankings | 12/20/18 – Introducing “The Bear Effect”
If you listened to Episode 5 of the Podcast with Bear and myself, you’ll hear him tell me that he think I was too hard on the Western Conference in last week’s power rankings. While I would never admit this to Bear’s face, he’s 100% correct and I might officially be sold on the Western Conference due to what I like to call “The Bear Effect.” The Rockets are finally playing ball like they used too, the Nuggets, Thunder, and even the Lakers are on an absolute tear. My power rankings this week had a bit of a shake up. A couple teams dropped and a few were added. Check it out!
**NR DENOTES NOT RANKED**
1. Denver Nuggets (21-9) ⬆️2️⃣
The best team in the NBA. Yes, the Denver Nuggets. They’ve won 4 in row, and 8 of 10 most notably my #2 team the Thunder by 11 and the team with the best record in the NBA in the Raptors by 9. They are playing great basketball! This team could be a lot of fun!
(also Bear’s favorite team) #BearEffect
2. OKC Thunder (20-10) ⬆️6️⃣
The Thunder might be the HOTTEST team in basketball right now. They are the team who made the biggest jump in my power rankings this week moving up six spots from #8 last week. They’ve won their last 3-games and 9 of 10. Their most recent game against the Kings was incredible. Paul George and Steven Adams had double-doubles (George’s a 43-point double-double) and Westbrook had a triple-double, as the Thunder routed the Kings by 19. If the Thunder can miraculously maintain this hot-streak and produce triple-doubles & double-doubles from these three guys every night & at the least maybe once a week, watch out.
3. Milwaukee Bucks (21-9) ⬇️1️⃣
My Milwaukee Bucks. I love them, Bear hates them. But only because I like them. This seems to be a trend over here with Big Rod, Bear, and The Basement Boys as they typically dislike and root against teams that I cheer for. I should have thrown Kansas at #1 to REALLY piss Bear off. Anyway, the Bucks have been playing pretty well this last week. They’ve won 7 of 10 and 3 in a row, however, because of how well Denver and OKC have been playing as of late, I had to drop the Bucks 1-spot in this weeks’ rankings.
4. Golden State Warriors (21-11) ↔️
The Warriors held their spot at 4 from last week’s rankings. To be totally honest, I haven’t seen much of the Warriors this season, if a game at all. They’ve won 6 of their last 10 and dropped one the other night to the Jazz. I said last week that I can definitely see one of those signature 18-20 game win streaks coming for the Warriors. They need to start beating teams they should beat and stop losing to teams they shouldn’t.
5.Toronto Raptors (24-9)⬇️4️⃣
The Raptors being dropped four spots in my power rankings this week is due to what I like to call “The Bear Effect.” He drilled me all of last weekend about the West and how the East wasn’t that good, and he was right. Some of you are probably saying “the Raptors have the best record in basketball right now, how did they drop 4-spots?” It’s “The Bear Effect.” I like the Raptors, but I’m taking all the teams above them in a 7-game series. They’ve been an even .500 over their last 10.
6. Philadelphia 76ers (21-12) ⬆️4️⃣
I’m not huge on the ‘Sixers, but they’ve been playing pretty well. They jumped up four spots from last week, winning 6 out of 10. I’m still not sold on this team, and I will stand by what I said last week in that they are a ticking time bomb just waiting to implode.
7. Indiana Pacers (20-12) ⬆️1️⃣
The Pacers seem to be that team that everyone kind of knows about, but refuses to talk about. They’ve won 7 of 10 and are sitting nice & pretty, yet ever so quietly in the 4th spot in the East. Keep your eye on this team moving forward.
8. Portland Trailblazers (18-13) NR
“The Bear Effect”
The Blazers are .500 over their last 10 and have won 3 in a row.
9.Los Angeles Lakers (18-13) NR
“The Bear Effect”
The Lakers are super surprising to me. Even though they have the best player in the NBA, I expected them to struggle this year. They’ve been playing good ball, winning 6 of their last 10.
10. Houston Rockets (16-14) NR
“The Bear Effect”
The Rockets have finally been playing up to their potential, winning 8 out of their last 11 and 5 in a row. Most recently, last night they hit an NBA record 26-three’s against Wizards. The Rockets are known for their “3-and-D” style…minus the “D” part. If it weren’t for James Harden getting away with a travel every time he touched the ball or attempted a step-back, I’d probably rank them higher. I mean check this out….this also happened during a crucial possession of the game and it was a no-call. (See below)
30. #1 Kansas Jayhawks (10-0) NR
“The Bear Effect”
“The Bear Effect” has a lot of impact on this week’s power rankings, including forcing me to put my very own Kansas Jayhawks at #30 over the Bulls. Guys, it’s official…Kansas would beat the Bulls in a 7-game series. Probably even sweep them.
(Just for you Bear 😉) #BearEffect
Los Angeles Clippers (17-13) 7️⃣ –
So, last week I had the Clippers at 7 and even said that they were the best team in LA. Well, I suppose I was wrong as they’ve dropped from my power rankings and that other team from LA hopped in. The Clippers have lost 7 of 9 and 4 in a row.
Memphis Grizzlies (16-15) 5️⃣ –
Yikes…where do I start with the Griz other than admitting that I was TOTALLY wrong about them last week. I got a little greedy last week putting them at 5 knowing they had lost 6 of their last 10 at the time, but I had confidence! If I were smart, that should have pointed me in the right direction that maybe they weren’t what I thought they were. Wishful thinking? They have lost 10 of their last 14 and 4 in a row. =
